Syntax Trader ("we," "us") allows users to download trading software and participate in a freelance marketplace. This policy explains how we handle your data in compliance with Canadian and international privacy laws.

The Gist: We need your email to make an account. If you hire someone or get hired, we need payment info. We DON'T see your live trades.

• Account Data: When you sign up, we collect your email address, username, and encrypted password.
• Profile Data: Optional information you provide, such as a bio, avatar, or portfolio links.
• Financial & Escrow Data (Crucial): If you use our Marketplace to hire or work:
  • We collect transaction details (Project cost, date, user ID).
  • We DO NOT store full credit card numbers. Payments are processed by third-party providers (e.g., Stripe/PayPal).
  • For Developers receiving payouts: We may collect tax identification information or real names if required by law for tax reporting.
• Software Telemetry: The Syntax Trader Software is Self-Hosted.
  • We DO NOT have access to your Rithmic credentials, live trading positions, account balances, or strategy logic. That data stays on your machine.
  • We may receive anonymous crash reports (if you opt-in) to help us fix bugs.

3. How We Use Your Data

The Gist: To run the site, process payments, and stop scammers.

We use your data to:

• Provide and secure the Website and Marketplace.
• Process Escrow Transactions: To hold funds and release payouts to developers.
• Fraud Prevention: To detect money laundering, duplicate accounts, or fraudulent disputes in the Marketplace.
• Send you important updates (e.g., "Your job was completed" or "Security Alert").

4. Data Sharing & Third Parties

The Gist: We don't sell your data. We only share it to process payments or if the law forces us to.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We share data only with:

• Payment Processors: To facilitate deposits and withdrawals (e.g., Stripe).
• Service Providers: Hosting services and email delivery tools (who are bound by confidentiality).
• Legal Obligations: If required by a subpoena, court order, or to prevent financial crime (such as money laundering through our Escrow system).
• Counterparties: If you enter a Freelance contract, the other party (Client/Developer) will see your display name and project details.

5. Cookies

The Gist: Just the basics to keep you logged in.

We use session cookies to keep you logged in and remember your preferences (like "Dark Mode"). We do not use third-party cross-site tracking cookies (like those used by ad networks) to follow you around the internet.

6. Data Security

The Gist: We lock the doors. But nothing online is 100% perfect.

We implement industry-standard security measures, including:

• HTTPS encryption for all Website traffic.
• Bcrypt hashing for passwords.
• Minimizing the data we store (we don't keep data we don't need).

7. Your Rights

The Gist: It's your data. You can delete it.

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Request the deletion of your account and data.

Note on Financial Records: While you can delete your account, we may be legally required to retain records of completed financial transactions (Escrow payouts) for a set period (usually 7 years) for tax and audit purposes.

Syntax Trader is based in Ontario, Canada. By using our services, you acknowledge that your information will be transferred to and processed in Canada, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
