Welcome to SyntaxTrader

These terms are pretty simple. We want to build a great trading community, and we need everyone to play nice.

The Basics

  • Don't claim our work as yours. SyntaxTrader is our platform. You can use it, share it, but don't rebrand it and sell it as your own creation.
  • Be respectful. Treat others in the community how you'd want to be treated. No harassment, hate speech, or being a jerk.
  • Keep it legal. Don't use SyntaxTrader for anything illegal or to harm others.
  • Your content is yours. When you post strategies, ideas, or code, you own it. But by posting, you're letting others in the community see and learn from it.

Community Guidelines

  • Share knowledge and help others learn
  • Give credit where it's due
  • No spam or self-promotion overload
  • Keep discussions on-topic and constructive
  • Report issues instead of escalating drama

Trading involves risk. Nothing on SyntaxTrader is financial advice. We're a community platform for sharing ideas and tools - what you do with that information is your responsibility. Always do your own research and consider consulting a financial professional.

Account Stuff

  • You're responsible for keeping your account secure
  • One account per person, please
  • We can suspend accounts that violate these terms
  • You can delete your account anytime

Changes

We might update these terms occasionally. If we make big changes, we'll let you know. Continued use of SyntaxTrader means you accept the current terms.

1. Introduction

Syntax Trader ("we," "us") allows users to download trading software and participate in a freelance marketplace. This policy explains how we handle your data in compliance with Canadian and international privacy laws.

2. Information We Collect

  • Account Data: When you sign up, we collect your email address, username, and encrypted password.
  • Profile Data: Optional information you provide, such as a bio, avatar, or portfolio links.
  • Financial & Escrow Data (Crucial): If you use our Marketplace to hire or work:
    • We collect transaction details (Project cost, date, user ID).
    • We DO NOT store full credit card numbers. Payments are processed by third-party providers (e.g., Stripe/PayPal).
    • For Developers receiving payouts: We may collect tax identification information or real names if required by law for tax reporting.
  • Software Telemetry: The Syntax Trader Software is Self-Hosted.
    • We DO NOT have access to your Rithmic credentials, live trading positions, account balances, or strategy logic. That data stays on your machine.
    • We may receive anonymous crash reports (if you opt-in) to help us fix bugs.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use your data to:

  • Provide and secure the Website and Marketplace.
  • Process Escrow Transactions: To hold funds and release payouts to developers.
  • Fraud Prevention: To detect money laundering, duplicate accounts, or fraudulent disputes in the Marketplace.
  • Send you important updates (e.g., "Your job was completed" or "Security Alert").

4. Data Sharing & Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We share data only with:

  • Payment Processors: To facilitate deposits and withdrawals (e.g., Stripe).
  • Service Providers: Hosting services and email delivery tools (who are bound by confidentiality).
  • Legal Obligations: If required by a subpoena, court order, or to prevent financial crime (such as money laundering through our Escrow system).
  • Counterparties: If you enter a Freelance contract, the other party (Client/Developer) will see your display name and project details.

5. Cookies

We use session cookies to keep you logged in and remember your preferences (like "Dark Mode"). We do not use third-party cross-site tracking cookies (like those used by ad networks) to follow you around the internet.

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures, including:

  • HTTPS encryption for all Website traffic.
  • Bcrypt hashing for passwords.
  • Minimizing the data we store (we don't keep data we don't need).

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request the deletion of your account and data.

Note on Financial Records: While you can delete your account, we may be legally required to retain records of completed financial transactions (Escrow payouts) for a set period (usually 7 years) for tax and audit purposes.

8. International Transfers

Syntax Trader is based in Ontario, Canada. By using our services, you acknowledge that your information will be transferred to and processed in Canada, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.

SYNTAX TRADER END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT (EULA)

IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY BEFORE DOWNLOADING, INSTALLING OR USING THIS SOFTWARE. BY USING THE SOFTWARE, YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS OF THIS LICENSE.

1. Definitions

  • "Licensor" refers to Syntax Trader.
  • "Licensee" refers to the individual or entity downloading or using the Software.
  • "Software" refers to the Syntax Trader platform, source code, scripts and associated documentation files.

2. Grant of License

Subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement, Licensor grants Licensee a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download, install, execute, and read the source code of the Software solely for personal, non-commercial use.

3. Restrictions

The Licensee SHALL NOT:

  • A. Sell, rent, lease, sublicense, distribute, or otherwise transfer the Software or any derivative works of the Software to any third party for a fee, compensation, or commercial gain.
  • B. Package, bundle or include the Software (modified or unmodified) as a part of any paid product, service, subscription, or course.
  • C. Remove, alter, or obscure any copyright, trademark, or proprietary rights notices contained in the Software.
  • D. Use the Software to operate a commercial trading service, signal service, or "white-label" platform where third parties pay for access.

4. Modifications

Licensee is permitted to modify the source code of the Software for their own personal use (e.g., bug fixes, custom features, or local optimizations).

If Licensee chooses to share these modifications with the community:

  • A. They must be shared strictly for FREE.
  • B. They must remain subject to this exact License Agreement.
  • C. Licensee cannot claim ownership of the original Software code.

5. Intellectual Property

The Software is licensed, not sold. Syntax Trader retains all right, title, and interest in and to the Software, including all intellectual property rights therein.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. THE LICENSOR DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL BE ERROR-FREE, SECURE, OR UNINTERRUPTED.

7. Limitation of Liability and Trading Risk

IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.

LICENSEE ACKNOWLEDGES THAT TRADING FUTURES, COMMODITIES, AND DERIVATIVES INVOLVES SUBSTANTIAL RISK OF LOSS. THE LICENSOR IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR FINANCIAL LOSSES, HARDWARE DAMAGE, DATA CORRUPTION, OR ORDER EXECUTION ERRORS RESULTING FROM THE USE OF THIS SOFTWARE.

8. Termination

This License is effective until terminated. Your rights under this License will terminate automatically without notice from the Licensor if you fail to comply with any term(s) of this License. Upon termination, you shall cease all use of the Software and destroy all copies, full or partial, of the Software.

9. Governing Law

This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada.
